Ryan Panchoo is the founder of award-winning gluten and dairy free doughnut brand, Borough 22.
While visiting cafés, restaurants and supermarket aisles it became evident to Ryan that there was a lack of suitable food products for his wife and children who suffer with gluten and dairy intolerances.
'At events my children couldn't eat anything because everything had dairy in it and they're dairy intolerant. I remember my son was really small and he used to ask me "does this have dairy in it?" and I thought, no, that's not right.'
In 2011 Ryan began experimenting with foods to address the lack of multi-allergen friendly products available on the market and in 2014, after years of experimenting, Borough 22 was born.
A steady number of sales through Facebook and Instagram helped Borough 22 quickly gather a loyal fanbase on social media and the range of gluten-free and vegan friendly doughnuts are now a sell-out product in Selfridges in London, Birmingham and Manchester as well as a number of independent bars, restaurants and cafés throughout London.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Ryan has continued to deliver doughnuts to his customers up and down the UK and is also developing a bake-at-home kit for anyone wanting to make their own gluten free, vegan doughnuts from the comfort of their own home.
Ryan still bakes from his home kitchen in South East London and has been nominated for several industry awards including winning a Great Taste Award for his cinnamon sugared doughnut.
