Dovetailed London is a multi-award-winning clothing brand specialising in African prints. The owner Adaku Parker, is a barrister turned designer. Taking a tube back to Chambers in 2013, she read in the Metro about garment workers facing enormous risks of death or serious physical injury as the Rana Plaza Building collapsed underneath them. In the days that followed, Adaku learnt that some of the brands that she was wearing at that time used workers from that same factory and she vowed that if she was to ever run a fashion brand, she would never put profit before people and the planet. She started her business in 2017, initially serving the DIY sewist with fabric, patterns, workshops and books but now also offering ready-made pieces.
African prints were always in her home growing up and the Dovetailed garments which fuse African inspired prints with British design are a nod to British born Adaku’s Nigerian heritage. The brand launched its clothing line in 2023, on a mission to encourage and inspire women to add colour and print to their wardrobes: they believe that life is too short to spend it wearing black and grey. At the same time, fashion should not cost the earth.
Dovetailed London are proud of their sustainable approach to garment manufacture. This means that they know who makes their clothes, and that they are receiving fair remuneration for their work. The clothes are manufactured in both London and Lagos with fabric sourced directly from the manufacturers and always the best quality fabric that is available.
