Harjit Sohotey-Khan is the founder of Jewelled Buddha, an ethical clothing and homeware brand that helps women shop ethically-made, handcrafted style that supports and empowers artisan communities.
After leaving her corporate 9-5 job to pursue her passion for travel, Harjit backpacked around Asia for a year. It was whilst travelling that she discovered many artisan communities of women weaving beautiful textiles all over Asia. This fuelled her interest in handmade clothing.
Feeling liberated by her experiences, she knew she couldn’t go back to her old career. So, she took a leap into the unknown and started Jewelled Buddha. Harjit works with NGOs, social enterprises and brands to bring the unique joy of heritage textiles and artisan made ethical clothing to a global audience. Wanderlust and sustainability are at the heart of her business. All her collections are created from upcycled or handwoven fabrics using heritage techniques passed down through generations. Every purchase empowers artisans to earn a sustainable income to live a life free from poverty. Working towards the Sustainable Development Goals, the environment is also something Harjit cares about. By partnering with Greenspark – a climate change platform, Harjit enables consumers to make an impact every time they shop.
